Feedback from the Final Edit of The Wrong Turn

 

 

 

 

There was a mixed review of what people thought of my film, I found this out from when I asked the question what did they enjoy about the film. Quite a few people said they enjoyed the opening sequence as this brought suspense. Although one person said that they didn't like the car scene as they thought it was too long and 'we assume she has locked the car we don't need to see her do it' although I understand what the interviewee meant, I have included this so the continuity flows correctly and so people don't question why I have not included her looking the car door.

 

One person that I interviewed said they only 'sort of' understood the plot; when I asked about this after they have filled out the questionnaire they asked me there questions and what they didn't understand about the film and when they explained it to me of what they didn't understand they thought correctly, so this isn't a big problem for me.

 

I then created a new questionnaire which I asked people about my aims and context to see whether I fulfilled these or not. I then found out that I did and people knew my genre was a thriller and all of them wanted to carry on watching my film.

 

 

Final Edit of The Wrong Turn

This is my final draft of my film. After doing a lot of re-shoots I have created a film which I am proud of. I have changed all of the corrections from my previous drafts which really makes this draft the most believable as well as sorting the camera angles and lighting issues which some of the shots had previously.

Feeback from Film Poster

 

Overall, out of the 20 people I have asked to fill in my questionnaire they seem to really like it, and 18 of them said that they would go and see the film based from the poster and the two people that said they wouldn't go and see the film is because they don't like horror films which is understandable as they added that 'there wasn't a problem with the poster, it was because they didn't like this genre of film'.

The main aim from my film poster was to persuade people to go and see my film. The other aim was to ensure that people who know the protagonist of my film is before they would watch it and this is something as a spectator we always know from the trailer and film poster from the film, this was something which all of the 20 people knew.

How I Created Some of my Shots

I have created this shot by putting the camera on a tri-pod and then setting it to a medium height and placing it on the ground while, Alice my actress, was stood on the step of the house in which the film is set and turns around. I zoomed into her face for this shot as I knew this would show the audience more worried and would allow the spectator to sympathise and relate to the protagonist more.

To create the shot of Alice driving up to the drive I set the camera on the tri-pod slightly away from the path and then I panned the camera around following the car right into the drive. I had to shoot this shot a few times to get it exactly right and to ensure that the car was parked correctly.

Third Draft of The Wrong Turn

This is the third draft of my film and I think this is a large improvement on the previous drafts there is however there are still a few shots I need to change:

• The first is I need to re-shoot when Alice turns the radio off in her car as it is quite dark and therefore the camera quality doesn't look as good as it would if the lighting was better.
• Another change I need to make is when Alice walks up to her bedroom and is sitting on her bed and the continuity is not correct when she is walking out of her bedroom back down the stairs as the shots do not match and don't flow correctly.
• The final change I need to make is when Alice sees somebody in her garden, of the person in her garden as this was shot in the dark and therefore is very dark and the continuity is in-correct as you can see outside in various other shots it is light outside and looks odd so I am going to change this shot when the sun is setting and it is not totally dark but is not shot in broad day light.

Health and Safety

When I recently filmed over this weekend for one of my shots my protagonist has to run outside, because of the icy conditions on the path outside of my house, when the protagonist runs outside I had to put grit outside to ensure that she didn't slip and fall as this could be very dangerous.

Changes

In the second draft of my film I realised that it would be a lot better if the ending didn't have any speech and it ended just as she was running away after seeing and hearing something in her house. And because of this I have realised that another part of my film which could then be cut is when Alice meets Becky in the street for the first time; this is now not needed as I only showed this so at the end of the opening sequence then Alice can run to Becky house, but because of the Hull accent and as the actresses I have used are not professional this is not realistic and the film would be a lot better if there isn't any speech in the entire film.

Another change I have made in my film is when Alice is in the bedroom of her new house and hears the noise of a baby in her room and then goes out and tries to find out what the noise has come from and instead of her sitting on the floor I will change it so Alice goes over to her bedroom and then sits on the bed as this will be more effective and look more natural and believable.

Christmas Holidays

Over the Christmas holidays I planned what I was going to do when we returned from college and I decided to film on the 19th January, this was slightly delayed as I wanted to film on the 12th/ 13th but my actresses in my film were busy and therefore I could not film on this date. The final deadline for this coursework is the 8th February; I dont think this is a worry as I know exactly what I need to do before this time and due to my careful planning I am not behind on what I need to do to complete this project in time.
